Even though kids are celebrating being out of school, June is over, and the summer is slipping away really quickly!!! Here at Comal County Public Health, we are already planning our back to school clinics. Immunizations will be given in all parts of the county, with our staff going into most schools for clinics. If you received a note from your child’s school nurse for updating shot records, then give us a call TODAY. Children who go to school in Bexar County (specifically Specht Elementary) will be required to have hepatitis A vaccination for school entry this fall. Don’t let August creep up on you without getting this done! It is a two-dose series that will need to at least be initiated before school starts. Tetanus-diphtheria vaccine is now in a plentiful supply. Those teenagers who had a deferral 1-2 years ago when there was a shortage are now expected to have their booster for school enrollment. And talking about immunizations, if you have a graduate who will be heading off to college, call NOW for Menomune (the meningitis shot) at Comal County Public Health Department. College freshmen are in the higher incidence group, so you will hear from your kid’s college on getting this immunization, along with hepatitis B vaccination. Just give us a call—we can take care of this for you! In efforts to meet the needs of our school-aged citizens, physicals for extracurricular activities or vision or hearing screening for daycare, are also offered. Please call for an appointment (830) 608-2015.
