Member of the Month

    I am deeply honored to be chosen as the member of the month for November 2007 for the Bulverde/Spring Branch Area Chamber of Commerce. My thanks to all of you, both voters and fellow members for this honor.

    After 4 years in the US Marine Corps I began my law enforcement career with the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1967. I was assigned to Comal County as the supervisor of the Highway Patrol in 1977 and left the Department as a retiree in December 1996. I assumed the position of Sheriff on January 1, 1997 and am currently in my 40th year in the law enforcement field. Law enforcement is not a job, it’s a way of life, and I am truly blessed to have been a part of such an honorable profession.

    My greatest pleasure in law enforcement has been the past 11 years while serving as your Sheriff. I’ve watched our county grow over the past 30 years at a very rapid pace. This growth has dictated that your Sheriff’s Office also grow in order to provide the service necessary for our community. At present we employ approximately 250 people at the CCSO. The majority of these are law enforcement and corrections officers. There is a constant emphasis on training needs to insure the very best services can be provided to our community members along with the 3 police departments located within Comal County. Our 911 (dispatch) center provides communications for all law enforcement (Constables, Highway Patrol, etc), Fire Departments, and EMS personnel in Comal County, except for those located within the city of New Braunfels. We citizens are blessed to have the caliber of men and women who serve within our Sheriff’s Office, and I am particularly blessed to get to work with them.
