Member of the MonthAugust 2007 BUZZ HEYE - ARTISTWorking in a home studio with a view of the magnificent Texas Hill country has been the desire of this lifelong artist for many Years. The goal was achieved when Buzz Heye sold his architectural practice of 22 years and started painting full time in the year 2000. As an architect who has lived in Bulverde for over 35 years it is not surprising his paintings contain not only a Texas look, but architectural elements as well. He has stated the simple honesty and straight forward character of the indigenous pioneer German structures appeal to everyone and can't help but strike a chord when included in a painting. Providing both commissioned and free lance work this local artist has found a niche Texas audience that wants something beyond the usual field of Bluebonnets. Working in his preferred medium of latex paint on board he uses vibrant colors in a semi-realistic style which hints at abstraction while exposing the essence of a scene. "I've been accused of making things look better than they are, but maybe that's how they actually are if you learn to appreciate them." Heye contends. A fifth generation Texan born and raised in San Antonio, Heye received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University and practiced architecture for 32 years. He is a former member of the American Institute of Architects, the Texas Society of Architects, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the North San Antonio Chamber. He is a current member of the San Antonio Art League and his painting, "Lalo's Cafe" won the Sponsors award in their 77th Annual Artists Exhibition in 2007.
