The Clyde Johnson & Sons Hereford Ranch located on FM 1863 has made a name for itself in the breeding industry for the last 50 years. The Johnson family has also made a name for themselves among many non-profit organizations by donating their beautiful ranch to host a multitude of events, including: The Alzheimer’s Association “A Night to Remember,” The American Cancer Society’s “Cattle Baron’s Ball,” Y.M.C.A. fundraisers and The Bulverde-Spring Branch Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Annual Taste of the Hills.” Clyde Johnson, Jr., a former FBI agent, and his wife Dorothy, purchased the property when it became evident that the interest their three sons expressed in raising Hereford cattle was more than a passing boyhood fancy. The ranch carries a cow herd of between 75 to 100 cows and sells about 30-40 bulls and 20 females annually in their annual production sale. The Johnson's have owned one of the most famous Hereford bulls in America and have had other bulls of fame, including: the 1990 Grand Champion Bull of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, the 1992 Champion Yearling Bull of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition and the 1993-4 Show Bull of the Year Southwest Region who was also the Grand Champion Hereford Bull at both San Antonio and Houston Livestock Shows and the 1997-8 Show Bull of the Year Southwest Region and the Grand Champion of the Houston Livestock Show.
While it is evident that the Johnson Family has raised many champions throughout the generations, The Bulverde – Spring Branch Area Chamber of Commerce salutes this family as Champions in their own league for their generosity and many contributions to the community throughout the years.
